Miss Liz is my "cousin-in-law" and also an amazing Photographer. She has been so nice as to allow me to be her Second Shooter for weddings this past summer. I had so much fun and was able to learn a great deal working with her. This girl is going places. Check out her facebook page at

Her boyfriend Todd called me one morning to ask me if I was available and would like to be there to capture him purposing to Liz. He had thought he remembered her saying that she would love to have something like that caught on camera. I, of course, was extremely excited not only for Liz but also that he thought of me to be the one to capture it all. He told me about his plan and how he even had her parents in on the surprise. The proposal was set to be at the Bartle farm in the barn. Her parents had to convince her to come home on exactly that day. Todd pretended to go to work early that morning and even drove around when he would call her so that she wouldn't think anything was different. The real excitement started when Mr. Bartle shut the barn door and locked us in. Todd didn't have a speech prepared but he was still a ball of nerves. He kept repeating to himself "Turn on the lights. Hold the ring. Turn on the lights. Hold the ring." It was so cute and touching to see such a big guy so excited and nervous. While we were waiting Liz called to tell him SHE had a surprise for HIM. (She had went to the salon and had her hair cut and curled.) All I could think was "Oh boy Miss Liz, you have no idea what kind of surprise is waiting for you!" Todd played it cool and she never suspected a thing. After waiting about an hour in the barn we finally saw her Jeep drive down the road. That's when the nerves and excitement hit hard. Not just for Todd but for me too! I was so excited I wanted to jump and scream. Instead I gave Todd a play by play of where she was and what she was doing since I could see through the wood slits of the barn.

Todd not-so-patiently waiting for Liz. |
Then it was time. She was coming to the barn! She was on her way! Todd and I were in position. She was at the door! Her hand was on the door.... but WAIT, she went back to get Missy (the dog). Todd and I look at each other like "Oh. My. GOODNESS!" The suspense was killing us. Finally Missy came.... Liz opened the barn door.......
And then she shut the door on us!
It only took a second and she opened the door again. This time completely aware of what was happening.
It was so exciting! Todd did such a wonderful job. After the proposal the Bartles and Todd's son Isaac were waiting for us outside the barn.
